Path to Manage Early Arthritis: Yoga, Acupuncture & Cupping

Introduction

Cupping is an ancient Chinese method, like acupuncture, that aims to stimulate the acupoints or meridians by placing cups on the skin to create suction. The suction can be created through heat or a mechanical device, and it draws the skin and underlying tissue into the cup. Ayurveda for arthritis, Cupping therapy for arthritis is the opposite of massage – rather than applying pressure to the muscles, cupping uses gentle pressure to pull them upwards. It has been described as a particularly relaxing and relieving sensation.

Potential Benefits of Cupping

  • Pain relief: Cupping has been shown to help reduce pain in conditions such as lower back pain, neck pain, and migraines.
  • Reduced inflammation: Cupping has been shown to help reduce inflammation in the body, which may be beneficial for conditions such as arthritis.
  • Improved circulation: Cupping can help improve blood flow and circulation, which can promote healing and reduce the risk of certain health problems.
  • Relaxation: Cupping can be a relaxing therapy that helps reduce stress and promote relaxation.
  • Balances and realigns the free-flowing energy life force (Qi).

It’s important to note that while cupping therapy for arthritis has potential benefits, it may not be suitable for everyone. It’s always a good idea to consult with a qualified professional before trying cupping. Going to a professional Cupping therapist ensures maintenance of hygiene, proper guidance regarding how and when to undergo the cupping session, and knowledge regarding the meridian points and which points need to be targeted for your condition.

Her Story

In her early thirties Ms. Mita Vinay, a corporate professional, started experiencing back pain, pain in her joints, difficulty in joint movement, and intermittent migraines, and gradually the pains started to interfere in her daily routine causing her stress. In addition to her thyroid issues. That’s when she consulted an Orthopedic for her pain relief. She was diagnosed with early arthritis. The physician put her on pain relief medicine, but she was not convinced by the treatment as the pain was playing an on-and-off game with her. She was also progressively using an inhaler for her breathing difficulties. All this kept her away from the things she loved to do.

Treatment Journey & Recovery

While researching alternative solutions for her health issues, she tried yoga acupuncture and dry cupping. This helped her pain relief and reduced the recurrence of pain. With relief from pain, she enrolled herself in a yoga course and this course taught her that yoga is not just about being on the mat–it’s really about a whole lifestyle choice.

Mita has used this knowledge to help reverse many of her health conditions such as thyroid, arthritis, migraines, asthma, and back pain. For the past 4 years, she has been living a medication-free life.
